HAVN Residences & Yacht Club is a collection of five, three-story revitalized waterfront buildings set along the Intracoastal Waterway in Palm Beach Shores. Starting at $6.5 million, the signature residences include four single-family homes with four bedrooms, a fifth flex space, bonus office, courtyard with an outdoor kitchen, and terrace overlooking a private infinity pool. Baccarat Residences, Miami, Florida

The Baccarat Residences is the brand’s first collection of residences to the Miami market developed by Related Group and GTIS Partners with interior design by Meyer Davis and Architecture by Arquitectonica. Part of SH Hotels & Resorts. Located in Brickell, the property will have 324 flow-through residences, eight penthouses, and twenty-eight waterfront flats. Residents will enjoy over 75,000 square feet of five-star amenities throughout five levels of the 75-story tower, including exquisitely appointed social spaces, a fitness center, La Mer spa facilities, and a private marina. The Abaco Club, Great Abaco Island, Bahamas

The Abaco Club, situated on Winding Bay, is adding The Cays, a new beachfront neighborhood consisting of 36 villa residences. Developed and managed by Southworth, the private Bahamian club’s master plan expansion also includes the Winding Bay Beach Club, which-will offer a resort-style infinity-edge pool, beach bar, and retail outlets, the renovation of existing dining venues, and the multi-phase development of an enhanced amenity corridor. 

Members of The Abaco Club enjoy annual events including wellness retreats, golf and fishing tournaments, and culinary celebrations like the Lobsterfest Food & Wine Festival, while families can partake in extensive kids programming such as “mini members” councils, themed parties and sports activations. St. Regis Cap Cana, Dominican Republic

Located on the Punta Espada Golf Course, the Residences at the St. Regis Cap Cana, the first and only five-star branded real estate offering in Cap Cana, is set to be complete this year. The property will include 70 luxury residences, with a collection of eight penthouses. The Astor collection, some of the most expensive homes in the history of the Dominican Republic, includes the Astor Penthouse, the Caribbean Penthouse, and six Astor Penthouse Residences. Vie L’Ven, a luxury resort and residences with 280 units, has launched sales on the 90 private residences in the development. Slated for completion in 2028, the property is the project of Altree Developments, a Toronto-based, multi-generational, full-service development company that says Vie L’Ven is set to redefine luxury living in St. Maarten.  

Set on Indigo Bay, on the southwest, Dutch side of the island, Vie L’Ven will feature a collection of fully furnished residences, alongside a luxury five-star hotel. A strong breeze blew through the open air entryway at the Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort Spa + Casino as we arrived late in the afternoon. Squinting through the bright sunlight, I could make out palm trees rustling in the wind and the turquoise ocean just beyond, calling my name for a quick plunge—right after I finished the cold glass of champagne they welcomed us with.

A swim and a shower later and we were having a bite for dinner at Alfresco Bar, the resort’s version of a lobby bar, dining on one of the best meals I’d had in a long time—a deceptively simple fresh fish skewer with fries. We watched the stars appear one by one and listened to the rush of a little waterfall behind us, already planning tomorrow’s extremely busy day of Pilates, an alfresco breakfast, and working with our toes in the pool all afternoon. I couldn’t wait to take advantage of everything the property offers—and it’s a lot.

The Setting 

The Hyatt Regency Aruba is situated in the bustling Palm Beach neighborhood on the island’s northwest coast. It’s a 359-room, family-friendly beachfront resort with two pools, a spa, and a huge lineup of amenities.

The resort’s lush, sprawling grounds wind from the entrance and Alfresco Bar all the way down to the beach, featuring waterfalls, a multi-level koi pond, towering palms, iguanas sunning themselves, and a three-tiered activity pool, complete with a huge waterslide and a swim-up bar along the way. One of the best late afternoons we spent at the resort featured a daiquiri in the pool and a quick ride on the waterslide.

There’s a second, adults-only pool tucked on the other side of the property, fittingly called Trankilo, and featuring an infinity wall that overlooks the ocean and first-come, first-served lounge chairs—but if it’s a special occasion, I highly recommend splurging on one of the pool cabanas with food and drink service, a stocked minifridge, a flatscreen TV, and a private pool entrance.

The picture-perfect beach is just as nice a place to park yourself for an afternoon—in June, the calm, crystalline water was an ideal almost-bathwater temperature that made getting out arduous. The Island

Aruba is super-easy to get to from the States, with direct flights from major cities like New York, D.C., Boston, Houston, Chicago, and Atlanta. While the island is technically a Dutch colony, it’s very Americanized—if you’re looking for an Olive Garden, a Dunkin Donuts, or a Wendy’s, you can find those nearby. As in most Caribbean spots, folks in Aruba speak English—along with Dutch, Spanish, and Papiamento, their native language.

Just make sure you wear (and reapply) sunscreen—the Aruba sun is no joke. And if you’ve forgotten yours at home, the resort has a couple of swim shops where you can find any and all essentials, including reef-friendly sunblock.

The Accommodations

The resort’s tranquil accommodations are fuss-free and elevated, with plush beds, beachy neutrals, and full or Juliet balconies. They offer single rooms with kings or two queens, or suites with one or two bedrooms, ideal if you’re traveling with the whole family. Bathrooms are fully updated and have lux waterfall showers, and other amenities include coffee makers and 65-inch flatscreen TVs. And almost all rooms have stunning ocean views—waking up to those scenes never gets old.

The Dining

The Hyatt Regency offers seven onsite dining options, from casual grab-and-go to upscale. Grab a quick breakfast at the Shoco Coffee Bar or sit down to an a la carte or buffet breakfast at Palms Beachside Grill. Palms also serves lunch daily, but if you’re busy chilling by the beach or pool you might want to grab an acai bowl at Kadushi Juice Bar or casual fare at Balashi Bar & Grill. 

The Palms Beach Bar is open for drinks and bites from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, while Alfresco Bar is perfect for happy hour or after dinner drinks. The highlight of the dining program is Ruinas del Mar, a stunning indoor/outdoor upscale dinner restaurant that mimics gold mill ruins and is surrounded by a koi lagoon, waterfalls, and gardens. The menu features fresh seafood, Italian-inspired favorites, and an extensive wine list. A candlelit dinner here was almost too picturesque, made even more memorable by the koi we could almost reach out and touch.

Things to Do

While it’s easy enough to spend a few days doing nothing but the pool and beach, Hyatt keeps a full schedule of wellness, dining, and family-friendly activities. You’ll find highlights like morning beach yoga at 7:30 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; a tennis clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 a.m.; mixology classes with a bartender on Mondays and Wednesdays on 4:30 p.m.; or salsa dancing lessons on Saturdays at 5:30 p.m.

Speaking of things to do, take advantage of your stunning Caribbean surroundings, if you feel so inclined, with watersports or tours. Aruba’s Red Sail Sports, located right on the Hyatt’s beach, offers water-based activities like catamaran cruises and snorkeling trips, or land-based tours like Jeep safaris and an ostrich farm excursion. You can even learn how to kite surf or spend a day deep sea fishing.

Wind down with an appointment at the onsite ZoiA Spa, where they highlight the healing properties of Aruba’s natural resources like aloe vera. Zoia means “balance” or “poise” in Papiamento. They offer specialized massages, body treatments, and even luxurious Hydrafacials, which use a patented water vortex technology to cleanse and hydrate the skin. My Bon Bini (which means “welcome” in Papiamento) treatment included a relaxing massage with aloe to treat my sunburn from the previous day, followed by foot reflexology, all in an outdoor cabana where the sounds of a passing shower lulled me to a near sleep.

Getting Off Site

While the Hyatt Regency makes it easy to never leave, you’d be remiss not to explore Aruba beyond the resort while you’re there. Take a stroll along the beach boardwalk and you’ll find yourself passing resort after restaurant after resort, perfect for switching up your scenery with a sunset cocktail at Pelican Pier, gyros at Kouzina, or dinner on the beach at Moomba.

The Palm Beach neighborhood is active and touristy, with tons of restaurants, bars, and shops open well into the night, even on weeknights. You’ll find any type of restaurant you’re after, from steakhouses to French brasseries to pizzerias. Or, take my advice and head out after dinner at the Hyatt Regency for gelato or dancing at one of the many bars, all within easy walking distance of the resort. 

With everything on offer both at the resort and on the island at large, it’s more than easy to kill a whole week here—but a quick weekend away to lounge in the sand is just as worth it.

The latest in oceanfront real estate and resorts

Cove Club at Cabo Del Sol recently unveiled its newest collection of residences, the Reef Beachfront Villas. Each of the eight villas includes an infinity pool, a spacious outdoor living area, and floor-to-ceiling windows. Our small charter jet, operated by Tradewind, makes a steep, slow glide into the Saint Barthélemy airport. The Caribbean island, cloaked in dense flora and surrounded by crystal clear waters, unfolds before me. After this thrilling decent, we disembark and meet our driver, who takes us along a winding cliff road toward the northeast side of St. Barth to Rosewood Le Guanahani (which means welcome in Arawak, the island’s indigenous language). In a sensual accent, he shares the history behind this French-speaking West Indies island, famous for its white sandy beaches, luxury yachts, couture designer boutiques, and high-profile vacationers, from Brigitte Bardot in the 1950s to Beyoncé and Jay Z today. This can be a place to see and be seen or to simply be. The latter is my goal.

We arrive at the boutique resort, located in a secluded enclave spread over an 18-acre peninsula surrounded by Marigot Bay and the Grand Cul-de-Sac. Sixty-six French Colonial guest cottages in Creole colors (many with plunge pools) are tucked into garden paths that wind through lush fuchsia bougainvillea, hibiscus, and palms and placed along sweeping beaches and a reef-protected lagoon—and 90 percent have ocean views. The intimate resort has recently undergone a stunning restoration and renovation by architecture firm David M. Schwarz Architects and interior design by Luis Pons Design Lab after devastating hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017 and is set to open later this summer.  

“We created new beach bungalows and have renovated the dining pavillions, spa, and wellness center, but the look and feel of Le Guanahani remains the same,” says architect Ted Houseknecht. He also notes that all systems have been upgraded using the most sustainable materials and technologies.

I’ve arrived for one of the resort’s curated wellness weekends—meditation, massages, and aromatherapy are all on offer and I am more than ready to start on my journey of wellness. After all, this is one of the tenets of the resort and something managing director Martein van Wagenberg strives for in his guests’ stays. Resort activities go well beyond the standard fitness classes and water sports; it offers customized weekend or week-long retreats to suit each individual’s needs—whether the intention is to relax, engage, or cultivate. 

After checking in at the breezy hotel lobby inspired by the island’s architecture, I meet Nick James, owner of BODY BLISS, an aromatherapy company, down on the beach for aromatherapy-infused cocktails with essential oils that include ginger and rose. (This is already my kind of wellness retreat.) Following cocktails, we dine alfresco at Indigo. The open-air restaurant plays off of St. Barth’s exceptional culinary heritage. Mediterranean-inspired cuisine coupled with a refined wine list, impeccable service, and stunning bay views make my initial journey into wellness a breeze. 

After dining under the stars, I head to my villa, a two-room suite awash in lavender and soft yellow hues. A large terrace overlooks the bay. I open the terrace door to hear the waves lapping at the shore and the tree frogs chirping. Far better than my iPhone Sleep Pillow app, I fall into the four-poster bed, dressed in Frette sheets, and drift into a blissful slumber. 

The next morning at 7:00 a.m., I head to one of the two swimming pools where the hotel hosts morning meditation. I am a bit nervous, admittedly, about the idea of sitting still for one solid hour while focusing on my breathing, but the idea of clearing my mind and just “being” sounds too heavenly to resist. I meet Chaya Mueller Bronstien, a licensed massage therapist who leads an Osho meditation. The hour flies by and I am feeling remarkably calm for my type-A personality. I am ready for the day. 

I join an aromatherapy session after a flaky, buttery croissant and French press coffee. Under Nick James’s tutelage, we concoct our own scents from his more than 100 organic essential oils, including lemon, jasmine, and orange blossom. The room becomes intoxicating in a good way. While others in the group chose aromas that promote energy or creativity, I choose rose oil, which promotes self love and healing. I carefully pour the custom blend into a small perfume bottle and add rose quartz to further enhance the blend’s properties. 

Later that day, I head to the restorative Sense spa, where James is training the staff on how to incorporate BODY BLISS into its services. Nestled among the property’s gardens, the spa offers customized treatments and an array of amenities including an adults-only swimming pool, a steam room, private outdoor showers, relaxation areas, a spa boutique and a salon. Le Guanahani is the only hotel in the Caribbean to offer My Blend by Clarins, a skincare line to incorporate lifestyle factors such as climate, sleep, diet, and stress into its formulas. I meet my massage therapist and continue on my journey of rejuvenation and relaxation. 

After lunch by the pool, I tour the island with a group and our first stop is Gustavia. The town’s 18th-century Scandinavian design represents a European sophistication not found elsewhere in the Caribbean. I’m told lunch on Nikki Beach is priceless for people-watching. I make a mental note to put that on my agenda for the next trip. There is no shortage of designer boutiques, and many hail from France: Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, and Cartier are just a few. We stop at various points along the way so we can experience the tremendous views of the surrounding islands and ocean. And we stop occasionally to assist a turtle crossing the road. 

Back at the resort, I learn Le Guanahani is not only focused on its guests’ wellness and well-being but also on the environment and conservation of both land and sea. Its onsite nature preserve organizes guided tours and maintains self-guided nature trails that encourage guests to enjoy the beauty of sea turtles and native sea grasses in their natural habitats.

The hotel can also arrange tours of other nature preserves around the island. In 2012, Le Guanahani became the first hotel on the island to clearly define its sustainability intentions by associating with Green Globe and participating in its certification process, which covers areas relating to sustainable management, social economics, cultural heritage, and environment. 

I decide to take a walk along a nature trail to take in this breathtaking experience. The gentle breeze stirs the salty ocean air with the fragrant scent of hibiscus, creating its own aromatherapy. I am well on my wellness journey and I could not have chosen a more perfect place to experience such a welcoming retreat.
